Who Built Pharrell Williams' Motorcycle?
Doug Keim. Creative Cycles. Umatilla, Florida. Two custom Harley-Davidson builds for one of music's most celebrated artists — each one a completely different vision, each one built without compromise.
Grammy Award-winning artist and producer Pharrell Williams commissioned two custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles from Doug Keim of Creative Cycles in Umatilla, Florida — the Cosmic Racer HD Softail and the Americana HD Softail.
Build No. 1
Pharrell Williams Cosmic Racer HD Softail
As usual, it all started with a phone call. It always does. But when the name on the other end of that call belongs to a Grammy Award-winning artist, producer, and cultural force like Pharrell Williams, the road to that conversation winds through considerably more territory than most. Celebrities travel with layers — managers, agents, publicists, handlers — and this project was no different than the many others Doug had navigated before. So we'll graciously skip over all that fun stuff and get to the good part.
What made this build particularly unique was the company it kept. The project involved not only Pharrell's team, but a major publishing company and The Motor Company itself — Harley-Davidson. With that kind of support behind it, Doug and Pharrell eventually found themselves on the phone together, talking bikes. A conversation or two later, Doug had his direction. And off he went.
Among Pharrell's many creative ventures is his iconic Billionaire Boys Club / Ice Cream Brand clothing line — bold, playful, unmistakably his. That identity would ultimately find its way onto the bike. But first, Doug had to build it. He secured a brand new H-D Softail straight from The Motor Company and set to work. His philosophy from the start was deliberate: don't lose the Harley. He wanted anyone who looked at this machine to still recognize it as a Harley-Davidson — but one that had been elevated far enough to stand in the company of a global icon.
The frame stayed bone stock H-D, but the swingarm was modified to run 23-inch wheels front and rear — a nod to the raw, stripped-down spirit of old school board track racers. From there, a swingarm-supported mini rear fender was hand-crafted to follow the new wheel profile. The suspension was dialed in just a tick. A side-mounted license plate bracket was fabricated and fitted with a real glass old school tail lamp, mounted cleanly to the left side of the swingarm. Even the wiring got the DKCC treatment — cloth-wrapped wire routed with billet clips, secured to the swingarm with the kind of obsessive attention to detail that separates a built bike from a finished one. Typical DKCC clean.
Engine covers were painted and pinstriped. The white rims on the wheels carry a matching pinstripe — a subtle thread of continuity that ties the whole machine together. And yes — why the number 4? Simple. Pharrell asked for it. A super soft deer hide seat was crafted on an old school knee-action spring seat, the kind of tactile luxury that rewards the rider who actually sits on it. Handlebars were custom bent specifically for this project, and a shorty set of exhaust pipes were fabricated to keep the profile tight and purposeful.
Then there's the paint — and this is where the Cosmic Racer truly earns its name. Pull up Pharrell's Billionaire Boys Club website and look closely at the imagery on the fuel tank and rear fender. You'll recognize it immediately. Those graphics were drawn directly from Pharrell's clothing brand — translated from fabric and fashion onto steel and clearcoat. It was painstaking, time-consuming work, and Chip from Aggressive Paint Works rose to every inch of it. He knocked it clean out of the park.
All in all, the Cosmic Racer was exactly what it needed to be — a Harley you can still call a Harley, wearing the unmistakable fingerprints of both the man who commissioned it and the builder who brought it to life. A total success for everyone involved. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Build No. 2
Pharrell Williams Americana HD Softail
As usual, it all started with a phone call. As it usually does.
Creative Cycles has always taken great pride in the fact that the shop has cared for everyone — from the do-it-yourself rider who wanted to pick up parts and accessories, to the hard-working blue collar person who needed repairs, routine service, performance work, or a full-blown custom build, all the way to large corporations, CEOs, and celebrities alike. It was always about the motorcycles and the people who owned and rode them. Not about their fame, their fortune, or the lack of either. That philosophy was baked into the foundation of this shop nearly five decades ago. It hasn't changed. It won't.
This machine would be the second Harley-Davidson that Doug and his team built for Pharrell Williams. By this point, the parties involved were already well established. The relationship had been forged on the first project — the Cosmic Racer — and the trust that came with it meant the second commission moved at a completely different pace. No layers. No handlers. No back-and-forth through a chain of intermediaries. Just one phone conversation between Doug and Pharrell, and the ball was rolling.
Pharrell's direction was clear and purposeful. He loved the board track racer styling of the Cosmic Racer — the long, low, purposeful lines of that first machine — but this time he wanted something different in spirit. He wanted a bike that honored America. Honored its military. Honored the things that made this country what it is. The rest, he said, was up to Doug. That kind of trust is earned, not given — and Doug took it seriously.
Once again, a Harley-Davidson Softail served as the foundation. And just as with the Cosmic Racer, similar sheet metal, bars, suspension, and exhaust were shaped and fitted to serve the vision. Twenty-three inch wheels from Ride Wright Wheels made their appearance — commanding, purposeful, and perfectly in keeping with the board track aesthetic that tied both builds together. Every detail, large and small, was brought together with the same obsessive care that defines every machine that leaves this shop.
Then came the paint — and this is where you need to stop and really look.
Chip from Aggressive Paint Works delivered something extraordinary on this build. The paint doesn't just cover the metal — it tells a story. A worn, weathered, beautifully battered story. Look at the aged and distressed finish. Look at the weathered names and badging that appear to have survived decades of hard use. And then look very closely at the top of the fuel tank. What appears to be worn and peeling 1920s luggage stickers — the kind you'd find on a well-traveled steamer trunk from another era — are not stickers at all. They are paint. Every crack, every peel, every faded edge: painted by hand with a level of skill and patience that most people will never fully appreciate until they're standing inches away from it. That's the kind of artistry that separates a great paint job from a legendary one.
Now shift your attention to the seat — and look closely again. That seat cover didn't start life as upholstery. It started life as a jacket from Pharrell's own clothing line. Study the shapes within what reads as a camouflage pattern. The geometry, the layering, the way the design moves across the surface. It's one of the most personal details on any build this shop has ever produced — a piece of the client literally woven into the machine. That's not a detail you plan in a design meeting. That's the kind of idea that comes from a real conversation between two people who are genuinely invested in making something special.
And yes — in the gallery images below, you'll see Doug and Pharrell together, talking bikes, business, and life. That's what this is really about. The machines are extraordinary. But it's the people and the relationships that make this work worth doing.
The Americana HD Softail is exactly what it was meant to be — a rolling tribute to American history, American craftsmanship, and the enduring idea that the best things in life are built by hand, with purpose, by people who care. We are incredibly proud of this one. We hope you love it as much as we do.
